LaDainian Tomlinson made his mark in San Diego as a member of the Chargers, rushing for over 12,400 yards and 138 touchdowns in a span of just nine years with the team. But now, he’ll be making an impact for the team in a different capacity.

Less than a month after Tomlinson was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, he will join the Chargers’ front office in Los Angeles as a special assistant to Dean Spanos.

“L.T. is one of the most beloved and iconic Chargers of all time,” Spanos said in the team’s release announcing Tomlinson’s new role. “His active involvement in our fight for Los Angeles is vital, and he represents the very best of what it means to be a Charger on the field and in the community.”

Tomlinson, who lives in LA, has spent the past five years working as an analyst for NFL Network. He will continue to serve in that role.

Tomlinson’s career accolades go far beyond his five Pro Bowl nods and even Hall of Fame election. In 2006, the running back set records for most rushing touchdowns in an NFL season (28) and most touchdowns from scrimmage in a single season (31). He also shares the NFL record for most consecutive games with a rushing touchdown, with 18.

Tomlinson was a three-time first-team All-Pro, two-time NFL rushing yards leader, three-time NFL rushing touchdowns leader, Offensive Player of the Year, and even the NFL MVP.

The former running back has maintained his ties to the team throughout the years and has been living in Los Angeles for the past half-decade or so.

“I spent the most memorable and exciting years of my career as a Charger,” said Tomlinson, via the team. “Joining the franchise as it makes the move to Los Angeles, and helping to rally new and familiar Chargers fans alike, is an honor and a privilege. I’m looking forward to working alongside the Spanos family once again.”

It would be incredibly difficult to envision the Hall-of-Famer joining any other team, and with the location and his ties to the team, a Tomlinson-Chargers reunion seemed like it was bound to happen. Tomlinson is a huge get for a Chargers team looking to make a splash in its inaugural Los Angeles season.

It’s an interesting move for a Chargers team looking to retain its San Diego fans while creating new fans in Los Angeles.
