Mississippi State just pulled off the biggest upset in the history of women’s college basketball. Coming into the game, UConn had won 111 in a row, and four straight national championships. The longest win streak in Division I basketball is over. Mississippi State, a two-seed in the tournament, lost to UConn last year by 60 points. 60 points! This year? They ended one of the greatest runs in the history of sports.

It was a game that Mississippi State was in control of from the very beginning. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 16-point lead in the first half, but UConn would not go away. The Huskies tied the game in the fourth quarter and headed to overtime thanks to a block by Gabby Williams. But Mississippi State’s Morgan William hit a buzzer-beater in OT ending one of the most historic win streaks we’ve ever seen.
UConn has now lost six straight games in overtime dating back to 2004. For a team that has such an unbelievable win streak, overtime has not been kind to them.
UConn had three wins this year by less than 10 points, but it could not hold off Mississippi State. The Bulldogs will face South Carolina in their first-ever national championship game.
