Marcus Smart on whether he’s about that life: ‘I can show you better than I can tell you’

Jimmy Butler questioned Smart’s toughness after Game 4, suggesting he didn’t feel the Celtics guard was “about that life.”

After Jimmy Butler questioned Marcus Smart’s toughness following the Chicago Bulls’ Game 4 loss to the Boston Celtics on Sunday, the Celtics guard had to answer the age-old question: “Is he ‘bout that life?”

“Like I said before, I ain’t gotta talk about what I am about, I’ll just show you. I can show you better than I can tell you,” Smart told a pool of reporters during Boston’s shootaround on Tuesday. “It ain’t hard to find me. You heard what he said, ‘I don’t THINK Marcus Smart is about that life.’ Last time I checked, if you gonna say someone ain’t about that life, you should know, right? But like I said, we gonna keep this Chicago Bulls vs. Boston Celtics, not Marcus Smart vs. Jimmy Butler.”

Later asked if someone has ever accused him of not being tough, Smart responded: “Never,” and that his response to Butler’s comments was a deadpan: “Haha.”

Smart’s comments were in response to Butler, who blasted him in the postgame press conference after Chicago’s 104-95 loss to the Bulls.

“He’s a great actor, acting tough, that’s what he does — but I don’t think he’s about that,” Butler said. “And I’m the wrong guy to get in my face. So he needs to take it somewhere else because I’m not the one for that.

“We’re not gonna sit here and get in each other’s faces,” Butler added. “Like I said, he’s not about that life. Calm it down.”

Butler and Smart got into an verbal spat in the second quarter of Game 4 and had to be separated by teammates and officials.

Game 5 is in Boston on Tuesday, so we could be in store for Round 2 of Butler vs. Smart. I guess we’ll really see who’s about that life come tip off.
