5’8 Isaiah Thomas keeps trying to jump with LeBron James

Thomas is 0-2 in this series when challenging James in mid-air.

LeBron James is 6’8. Isaiah Thomas is 5’8. That already visible height disparity became even more apparent in the first quarter of Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Boston Celtics Game 2, when James nearly leaped over Thomas to finish an alley-oop layup.

Jae Crowder is partially at fault here for taking his eyes off James just long enough to get a head full of steam while darting to the paint. Then Kevin Love delivered a pinpoint lob pass right over Thomas’ reach as James finished with the layup.

This is the second time the much shorter Thomas has tried to challenge James at the rim, to no avail. In Game 1, the Celtics’ All-Star guard sprinted cross-court in an attempt to block a James dunk. He only reached James’ waist as the two elevated. The King didn’t flush the dunk, but he got to the foul line for his troubles.

You’ve got to tip your hat to Thomas for attempting. His heart has never been questioned. But sometimes in life, you’ve just gotta take your L as it comes. Challenging James at the rim is an inevitable L.

But, hey. It could’ve been worse.
