The 2017 NCAA lacrosse tournament is getting into crunch time. Only eight teams are left standing after an eventful first round, and quarterfinal action gets started on Saturday as the field narrows down further.

The quarterfinals get underway in the second weekend of the lacrosse tournament.


The first game on Saturday pits No. 3 Ohio State against Duke. The Blue Devils pulled off one of the more surprising results in the first round, routing No. 6 Johns Hopkins, 19-6. Justin Guterding and Joey Manown led the team with four goals apiece, while Sean Lowrie came off the bench to score three of his own. Ohio State had a bit more challenging test with Loyola (MD), eventually grinding out a 7-4 victory. Tre LeClaire made the difference with three goals in a winning effort.
The second game of the day sees No. 4 Notre Dame taking on No. 5 Denver. The Pioneers, champions in 2015, are coming off a 17-10 first-round victory over Air Force, with Austin French, Connor Cannizzaro, and Max Planning all scoring three goals. The Fighting Irish handled their first-round opponents, Marquette, with a 15-9 win. Brendan Gleason had a huge game for Notre Dame with five goals, while Brendan Collins also came through with four scores.
The winner of Ohio Sate-Duke faces either No. 2 Syracuse or Towson in the semifinals. Whomever triumphs in Denver-Notre Dame gets a date with No. 1 Maryland or No. 8 Albany.
