LeBron James picked up his fourth foul midway through in the second quarter of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Game 3 matchup of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday. It marked the first time in his career James picked up four fouls in the first half, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, and only the fourth time he’s recorded four fouls in a playoff game over the past two years.
LeBron James picked up 4 fouls in the 1st half of Game 4 and none the rest of the game
Then, Kyrie Irving saved him and the Cavaliers.

And yet, this somehow didn’t sink the Cavaliers. They chopped a 16-point Celtics lead to 10 by halftime with James on the bench, then surged into the lead in the third quarter thanks to brilliant Kyrie Irving shot-making. As they pulled away in the fourth, James didn’t commit any more fouls the rest of the game.
James originally picked up foul No. 4 in the first by way of a charge when he barreled over Terry Rozier while driving to the basket. He had previously been whistled for a questionable foul on Marcus Smart, who was shooting a three, as well as another offensive foul earlier in the second quarter.
James’ foul trouble should have been an issue for a Cavaliers team that has struggled mightily with its all-world forward off the court. Instead, Kyrie stepped up and saved The King.
