Stan Van Gundy adopts very last dog remaining at animal shelter
The Labrador Retriever has leg deformities and bad eyesight, but it was the last dog left at the shelter.
His name is Eastwood, and he’s a red-coated Labrador Retriever mix. He was born with leg deformities and was found nearly blind, wandering in the cold. Eastwood was the very last dog remaining at the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society in Harbor Springs during Michigan’s statewide “Empty the Shelters” pet adoption day.
It was Van Gundy’s 17-year-old daughter who begged the Pistons’ president and head coach to adopt the dog.
“We are so grateful to the Van Gundy family for the awareness they are bringing to adoption and for opening their hearts to make a difference that will change Eastwood’s life forever,” said Cathy Bissell, founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation, according to a local news station. “Every shelter pet deserves a second chance. So many pets are waiting to be adopted and we hope telling Eastwood’s story will help save those pets too.”
The shelter said the pup could require surgery in the future costing upwards of $4,000. Good thing Van Gundy is well compensated for his position in the Detroit front office.
