Indiana Pacers forward C.J. Miles will opt out of the final year of his contract and test free agency, according to ESPN.com’s Chris Haynes. He leaves a guaranteed salary of about $4.8 million on the table for the opportunity to secure a more favorable contract on the open market.

Miles has been a reliable reserve swingman and perimeter shooter for the bulk of his 12-year career. He averaged 10.3 points per game on 41.3 percent three-point shooting for the Pacers last season.
The Pacers’ front office anticipated his decision to decline the player option on his contract, according to Haynes.
The 30-year-old Miles spent the last three seasons in Indiana after seven years with the Utah Jazz and two years in Cleveland. A competent three-and-D forward, he is likely to score a sizable contract — either in Indiana or elsewhere — with a team that needs to add depth on the wings.
Miles signed a four-year deal worth $18 million with the Pacers in 2014.
