Florida State allows game-tying run on a wild, blunder-filled play

It’s surprising that only three errors were committed here.

In the evening session of the College World Series’ opening salvo, No. 4 LSU and Florida State are engaged in a spectacular, error-filled game, that’s already seen the Seminoles commit two errors. LSU has capitalized on all of FSU’s mistakes, holding the score down to a 4-3 Seminole advantage.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, though, some truly hair-raising baseball transpired, as Antoine Duplantis singled through the right side with a man on first. FSU right fielder Austin Wells mishandled the ball while fielding, letting it get by him, which advanced Duplantis to second and Cole Freeman over to third.

Wells’ throw into second is then mishandled upon arrival, as it gets by Matt Henderson into the infield. Third baseman Dylan Busby comes over in support, and his throw is misplayed at the plate by catcher Cal Raleigh.

So: a throwing error on Wells, a fielding error on Henderson, and a fielding error on Raleigh — all on the same play. The result of all of this madness was plating the tying run, and the score currently sits at 5-4 LSU in the top of the ninth, after the Tigers managed to cross another run shortly after this weirdness. This game has been absolutely wild.
