St. Louis Blues forward Patrik Berglund will be sidelined for the beginning of the 2017-18 NHL season after undergoing shoulder surgery, the team announced Wednesday. The recovery timeline is set at roughly five months, so he could return by the start of December.
Blues forward Patrik Berglund out until December after shoulder surgery
Not great news for St. Louis.

The 29-year-old sustained a dislocated left shoulder during an offseason workout in his native Sweden. He then traveled back to St. Louis to undergo a procedure at the Washington University Orthopedic Center.
Berglund is about to begin a five-year, $19.25 million contract extension that he signed with the Blues in February. The deal includes a $3.85 million annual cap hit and a complete no-movement clause in the first year, per Cap Friendly.
For the final four years, the forward gets a no-movement clause with a partial no-trade clause attached, which means he cannot be waived or reassigned to the AHL without his permission, but he’ll have to give a list of teams he can be traded to sans approval.
Berglund set a career-high with 23 goals while playing all 82 games for the Blues last season. He hasn’t been much of a playmaker over the years, however, with just 57 assists over the past five seasons. But as a solid two-way center with finishing ability, Berglund will be missed while he’s out of the lineup.
