The Penguins’ power play was supposed to be one of their biggest strengths entering the Stanley Cup Final, but the Predators had done an impressive job keeping it in check through four games. Pittsburgh went 0-of-3 with the man advantage in Game 4, which dropped the team to 1-of-16 in those situations in the series.

Early in Game 5, the Penguins got another power play opportunity, and this time, defenseman Justin Schultz cashed in by going five-hole from long distance.

That’s the third power play goal of the playoffs for Schultz, and his first since Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Senators. Only Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Jake Guentzel, and Phil Kessel have recorded more points among Penguins in the postseason.

Minutes later, Bryan Rust scored at even strength to put the Penguins up 2-0. It’s looking good for the home team early on.
