Long Beach State is hosting Cal State Fullerton in the Long Beach super regional of the NCAA baseball tournament, and when these two get together, pure baseball joy expands out and everywhere.
College baseball umpire spins around and EMPHATICALLY CALLS RUNNER OUT AT FIRST
Leave no doubt.

Long Beach State opened up a 3-0 lead in the early goings of Friday’s first game in a best-of-three series, and perhaps no one is more amped to be in attendance than this first base umpire.
Here we have Garrett Nelson of Long Beach State getting thrown out at first on a fairly off-target throw, but Fullerton’s first baseman Dillon Persinger is able to haul in the offering and keep his foot on the bag.
And yet, Persinger is in no way the hero of the play here. The real hero of the play is our first base umpire, who calls Nelson out with a passion rarely seen by umpires. Indeed, the game’s referees are supposed to be disinterested observers, wholly dedicated to objective analysis of the proceedings before them.
But with such a great stab in the first-second base gap, and with such great poise to make the catch and maintain one’s grounding at first, it’s understandable that our ump spins around and offers up an extremely dramatic “YOU’RE OUT.” Let’s take a closer look.
More umpiring spin moves in the future, please.
