Randy Moss didn’t even need to line up correctly to catch a 50-yard TD from Tom Brady

Nobody could stop the 2007 Patriots, even when the offense had to improvise.

The 2007 New England Patriots offense was so good that it finished the season 16-0 mostly because nobody could stop the attack.

Tom Brady ended the season with 4,806 yards and 50 touchdowns. He connected with Randy Moss for 1,493 yards and an NFL-record 23 touchdowns, and they made it look easy.

Case in point: Brady’s 25th touchdown of the season, which was a 50-yard bomb to Moss in the end zone.

But there’s more to the story here, and it makes it even more impressive. Donté Stallworth shared that this was absolutely not the play the Patriots were planning to run:

And Moss was in double coverage. It didn’t matter. The Patriots were just out here destroying defenses in 2007, even when Moss wasn’t lining up where he was supposed to be. And believe it or not, it gets even better.

The 2007 Patriots almost pulled off the perfect season, thanks in large part to the offense. The New York Giants squashed that dream with a 17-14 win in Super Bowl XLII.

Brady has the deepest group of receivers around him going into 2017 that he’s had in a while. He has reliable receivers in Julian Edelman and Chris Hogan, game-breaking speed in Brandin Cooks, and he’s got the most talented tight end in the game in Rob Gronkowski. But it would be almost impossible to top the Brady-Moss connection back in 2007.
