A major crash on Stage 2 of the 2017 Tour de France took out dozens of riders, including Chris Froome, yellow jersey bearer Geraint Thomas, and several other yellow jersey contenders. As of yet, there is no word of any significant injuries suffered, but when so many riders go down, damage is inevitable.
Huge Tour de France crash takes down Chris Froome and yellow jersey

The crash took place with roughly 30 kilometers to go in the stage. Riders had navigated the wet roads relatively well up to that point, but a hard right bend entering a roundabout sent a Katusha rider sliding out wide. The domino effect took over from there.
Froome appeared to be no worse because of the crash, but after riding after riding for several minuted he raised his hand for team car assistance. His kit was torn afterwards.
Romain Bardet, who finished No. 2 in last year’s Tour de France, also went down in the crash, but he, too, was able to get up and keep riding.
The 2017 Tour de France has been chaotic so far. Several riders crashed during Saturday’s time trial, including yellow jersey contender Alejandro Valverde, who was forced to abandon.
Here’s hoping the roads dry off starting Monday.
