Gordon Hayward met with the Boston Celtics for their scheduled free agency pitch on Sunday, and it was elaborate as hell.
Gordon Hayward’s visit with Celtics included Fenway Park video featuring David Ortiz
Boston’s free agency pitch to Hayward took him to a baseball stadium. To be fair, it’s an iconic one.

Hayward already met with the Miami Heat on Saturday, and he’ll travel to San Diego to meet Utah Jazz management. There’s also an emoji war happening for his allegiance on Twitter. But the Celtics are presumably the only team of the three that brought an iconic baseball stadium into the mix. That’s right — Hayward’s meeting with the Celtics started at Fenway Park.
Brad Stevens met Hayward on his flight into Boston, as proven by this photo-taking sleuth. Hayward starred at Butler when Stevens coached there years ago.
But people in the high-rise buildings around the stadium got a sneak peek at what the Celtics were showing Hayward.
And here’s a clip of another video that was shown to Hayward on the public outing.
The video included several huge stars talking about Boston as a sports city.
It seems like Al Horford is in town, too, presumably for the free agent pitch.
Hayward is probably at least a day away from making any decision, so don’t hold your breath on something coming before the Fourth of July. But the Celtics certainly didn’t waste any measures when pursuing the most sought-after free agent left on the market.
