Mike Trout won’t play in the 2017 MLB All-Star Game

The superstar was voted in by the fans, but he won’t return from his thumb injury in time to represent the Angels in the All-Star Game.

Mike Trout is the best player in baseball, a title he’s held for the past six seasons. He’s so good that he can miss a month and still be one of the top three American League outfielders in WAR. As such, he was voted as a starter for the 2017 All-Star Game by the fans, and he actually deserved it, despite the missed time.

Unfortunately, though, he will not make a dramatic return at the All-Star Game. From the Angels:

It makes sense. Trout’s health is more important than some silly exhibition, and it behooves the Angels to stick with a tight rehab schedule.

On the other hand: rats. Baseball is better with Mike Trout in it. That’s doubly true when it comes to the All-Star Game. If you were expecting a WWE-style surprise with Trout’s music playing before the first pitch in Miami, you weren’t alone. It doesn’t look like it’s going to happen, though.
