Richie Porte taken to hospital after hard crash in the Tour de France
Medics stabilized Porte’s neck after he fell on the tricky descent on Mont du Chat.

The descent from Mont du Chat was known to be steep and technical entering the stage. The hope was that it would result in thrilling racing, and it did, until disaster struck. Porte slipped off the shoulder of the road, and appeared to hit the back of his neck hard on the wall on the opposite side of the street.
Martin reportedly returned to his bike after the incident, though he will no doubt be in a pain after the stage.
Most importantly, here’s hoping Porte is OK. He was reportedly traveling 72.5 kilometers per hour when the crash occurred. He had ambitions of winning the yellow jersey this year in the midst of a stellar season. He has often had bad luck at the Tour, but finished fifth last season.
