Mayweather-McGregor: Floyd looked sharp at his media day workout

Mayweather, 40, isn’t the same boxer he used to be. But he still has the skills and confidence that helped him become arguably the best boxer of all time.

Floyd Mayweather may be 40 years old, but it looked like he took a sip from the fountain of youth before his media workout on Thursday. In a workout video, he appeared ready for his much-anticipated fight against UFC Lightweight champion Conor McGregor on Aug. 26 at the Las Vegas T-Mobile Arena.

Mayweather (49-0) started his workout by moving around the ring with weights in his hands and throwing different combinations. He also threw punches at the double-end bag with confidence and barely broke a sweat while doing so.

Then Mayweather decided to pick up the pace of his workout by throwing combinations at a heavy-hitter body bag. His punches were so lethal and powerful that his trainer, the guy sporting the bag, bent over and looked tired after Mayweather was done. You could hear almost every shot echoing off the bag.

His workout looked intense, but he said in the video that he never gets tired. Mayweather said earlier this week that he lost a step and that McGregor has the edge over him — on paper.

McGregor, 29, is 11 years Mayweather’s junior, so youth is definitely on his side. However, based on this workout, Mayweather’s confidence and tantalizing skill set as a boxer remains robust. In fact, he stared at reporters while rapidly hitting a speed bag with his right hand and holding a beverage in his left. He said: “I’m Mayweather. I can do anything.”

Mayweather looked like he enjoyed himself during the workout. He kept a smile on his face, engaged in conversations with those around him, and made jokes whenever he wanted. He’s just oozing confidence right now.

A warning on that video, however: It is the uncut version and contains a lot of profanity.
