Back In The Games: Watch the Yankees & Red Sox time travel back to MVP Baseball 2005

So much has changed.

As video games get more and more advanced, the games we know and love back in our childhoods tend to move further back into our minds until they come up in fun instances of small talk for someone eavesdropping to go “YO I REMEMBER THAT GAME!” and join your conversation. These video games are more than that. They are a portal into how things were back in that era.

I’m just kidding it’s not that deep.

Welcome to Back In The Games!, A series where we take certain teams back in time to remember what they looked like in a certain timeframe.

Episode 1: Randy Johnson vs. Curt Schilling!

The rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees is an iconic one. MVP Baseball 2005 is an iconic video game. I decided to take the teams back in time and have them play a four-inning game.

For those of you that don’t have time to watch 18 minutes of video game greatness, here are the highlights.

Randy Johnson was a borderline cheat code.

All the evidence I need resides in his slider.

I’ve had this game for over a decade and I’m still convinced that the ball teleports.

Randy, chill out. Kids play this game. This isn’t fair.

Sheesh.

I want you to focus your eyes on the bat.

You are getting sleepy. Very sleepy.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Anthony Friese

At face value, he was a store brand version of Kevin Millar.

However, for those of us with imaginations, Anthony Friese was the ultimate schemer. He was able to infiltrate a very powerful Red Sox lineup with a .000 average.

He also wore the number 86 like a boss. Your favorite could never!

Nice.

It was not a good pitching day for the Red Sox

Curt Schilling gave up a home run to legendary catcher Jorge Posada.

Then Derek Jeter.

Who proceeded to bat flip.

Then Bronson Arroyo came in to relieve Schilling. Did it help?

Hahahahahahahahahaha no.

To sum it up, it was a bad day for the Red Sox. But hey, at least they won the World Series in 2004, so that’s something right?

Episode 1 end.
