Marshawn Lynch sat during the national anthem prior to the Raiders’ preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday. It’s the second time Lynch has sat during the national anthem this preseason.

Lynch sat the previous week against the Cardinals.

The Associated Press reports that Raiders rookie safety Shalom Luani also kneeled during part of the anthem. Derek Carr was also seen with his arm around a standing Khalil Mack during the anthem.
The first time Lynch sat during the anthem came against the Arizona Cardinals. When he was asked about it on Thursday, Lynch spoke at random and didn’t provide a motive.
“I think that elephant just left the room cause a little mouse ran in here,” Lynch said. “Didn’t they say elephants are scared of mouses or something? That motherfucker left, cousin.”
He was then asked if it would matter to him if Raiders fans wearing his jersey would sit for the anthem. He said, “When we run ‘74’ or something like that where I’ve got to scan and read both sides, that’d be pretty difficult. But for the most part, I’m a veteran so I can make it work.” He simply didn’t want to discuss it.
After that game, Jack Del Rio said he didn’t know that Lynch would be sitting during the anthem.
Lynch has previously spoken in support of Colin Kaepernick’s decision to take a knee during the national anthem in 2016. Lynch has now sat for the anthem twice, and a third time would make for a trend.
