SummerSlam 2017 results: Sasha Banks makes a statement against Alexa Bliss

Alexa Bliss dominated, but couldn’t make Banks cash out.

WWE Network

Sasha Banks and the reigning WWE Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss didn’t like each other one bit coming into SummerSlam 2017, and they certainly didn’t do anything to improve their relationship on Sunday night. They had a stiff, fierce, and vicious battle for the Raw Women’s Championship, and it was hard to tear your eyes away from the match.

Sasha tried to get a flurry of offense in early, but one hard counter was all Alexa needed to get an opening and start working over the three-time former champion. Submissions, strikes, aerial moves — Alexa Bliss brought it all, and for a long time there was barely anything Sasha Banks could do about it.

Sasha managed little pieces of offense here and there, but by and large Bliss was in full control of the match — that is, until Banks countered one big move in the corner, sending Bliss face-first into the turnbuckle. That let Sasha start trying to work over the champion, eventually locking in a crossface, but Bliss got to the ropes and slipped out of the ring — then pulled the ring apron out from under Banks as she tried to launch an aerial move of her own to take down the champion.

A further assault left Banks protecting her left shoulder in obvious pain, giving Bliss a target to start working over. Alexa went for her Twisted Bliss finisher in the air, but Banks had just enough left in the tank to kick out, leaving the champion frustrated and vulnerable to a sudden counter into the Bank Statement submission move that’s won Sasha the title before — and after a brief struggle, it won it for her again.

Banks is now a four-time WWE Raw Women’s Champion, and Bliss is left furious and without her cherished title.
