Floyd Mayweather has always been known as a focused and dedicated trainer. Indeed, many would say that’s why he’s 49-0. Chris Eubank Jr, the current IBO super-middleweight champion, believes Mayweather will come out victorious because he saw the undefeated boxer train, saying he isn’t taking Conor McGregor, the current UFC Lightweight champion, lightly.
Chris Eubank Jr. says Mayweather isn’t taking McGregor lightly
Eubank knows a thing or two about boxing, so he believes Mayweather will win on Aug. 26.
“From what I’ve seen, Floyd is in tremendous shape. I watched him train for [Manny] Pacquiao, and I watched him train for McGregor. In my opinion, he’s in just as good shape as he was for those opponents. He’s not taking the fight lightly. Conor hasn’t had a fight in the professional ranks as a boxer. But Floyd is treating this fight like like he’s about to go in there with the No. 1 contender,” Eubank said.
The Mayweather-Pacquio mega fight in May 2015 generated a record-setting $72.2 million. But Eubank believes the Mayweather-McGregor bout will do better “numbers wise” because of the hype and the theatre.
Eubank attended some of the Mayweather press conferences and said those events were filling out arenas. “It’s unheard of. It’s literally a once-in-a-lifetime fight right here. It’s been an honor to be a part of the last stretch of [Mayweather’s] training camp.”
Eubank also said Mayweather will win because there is nothing to base McGregor’s boxing ability on, and no one knows what kind of boxer he is.
“We know that Floyd is one of the best ever. So, you can’t really say that Conor’s got much of a chance of winning. Obviously, anything can happen. But if you are a betting man, the smart money is on Floyd.”
