Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will hit the scales on Friday for their official weight one day before the money superfight. While the press conferences are over, we can probably expect some last-minute verbal sparring during this event.
Mayweather vs. McGregor weigh-in: Start time, TV schedule for weight announcements
Friday’s weigh-in is the last bit of business to be done before Mayweather and McGregor face off in the boxing ring.
Showtime will have live coverage of the weigh-in at 6 p.m. ET, with online streaming at its official YouTube channel.
The fight was signed for 154 pounds, the standard boxing weight for super welterweights. Both men are expected to hit the weight limit without much problem — McGregor has fought at 145 pounds, which is where he won the UFC Featherweight Championship. Mayweather’s last fight, a WBA welterweight bout with Andre Berto, was contested at 147 pounds. They initially agreed to fight with 10-ounce gloves but have since moved down to the eight-ounce level.
McGregor is making the jump from MMA to boxing after being the first fighter in UFC history to hold a championship belt in two weight classes (featherweight and lightweight) at the same time. He’s making his pro boxing debut against the 49-0 Mayweather. On paper, this fight appears to be a big mismatch — Mayweather is the betting favorite with -400 odds, according to OddsShark. However, interest in the fight has remained high thanks to the big personalities and controversial trash talk.
The actual fight might not be much to write home about, but Mayweather vs. McGregor has become a pure spectacle nonetheless. It’s going to make boatloads of money, either way.
Coverage of the fight will begin Saturday at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime PPV.
