Early in the first quarter of the Patriots’ preseason game against the Detroit Lions, receiver Julian Edelman went down with a knee injury. Ian Rapoport later reported that Edelman suffered an ACL injury, and an MRI confirmed the news Saturday:
Julian Edelman suffers season-ending ACL tear in preseason game against Lions
Edelman was injured as he attempted to make a cut.

This seems to be a non-contact injury as he completed the catch and tweaked his knee on a cut.
As he attempted to get back up, he grabbed on to the back of his knee and limped away from the field with the help of trainers.
The injury is a big blow to the Patriots. Edelman, who made one of the greatest catches in Super Bowl history in New England’s historic comeback, is one of Tom Brady’s favorite targets. He led the team in receiving last year with 98 catches and 1,106 yards.
But if any team is able to overcome an injury to a key player, it’s the Patriots. Brady still has a bevy of weapons in the passing game, including Brandin Cooks, Rob Gronkowski, Chris Hogan, Danny Amendola, Dwayne Allen, and James White.
In nine seasons with the Patriots, the 31-year-old Edelman has 425 catches for 4,540 yards and 24 receiving touchdowns.
