Jerry Jones has never shied away from controversy.
It was Jones pulling strings every step of the way for the Cowboys, despite the fact that he described himself as the “walk-on” of NFL owners at the time. Other owners at the time Jones bought the franchise included iconic figures like Lamar Hunt, Eddie DeBartolo Jr., and Paul Brown.
But Jones has earned plenty of criticism for his high visibility and heavy involvement in team operations. Those are knocks that Jones has never shied away from.
“As long as it’s not a serious thing, controversy is good,” Jones told SB Nation. “There was a favorite place that we liked to go to. We were down there one day and somebody tied a horse up. Well after about two or three beers, I went up and got up on the horse and rode that horse into the bar. If it gets too dull around the Dallas Cowboys, I know how to stir it up a little bit. I can get that done.”
Jones will enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday, along with LaDainian Tomlinson, Kurt Warner and four others. He will be the 14th owner to be inducted as a contributor to the game.
