Allen Robinson suffers ACL injury vs. Texans in Week 1

The Jaguars will likely be without their No. 1 wide receiver for the remainder of 2017.

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Allen Robinson suffered an ACL injury in his left knee on his first reception of the 2017 season, the team announced, and will likely miss the remainder of the year.

The exact severity of the injury will be revealed Monday, according to the team, but it appears to confirm previous fears of an ACL tear, and looks as though it will be the end of the season for the Jaguars’ top receiving threat.

Robinson, 24, is one of the most dangerous weapons in the Jacksonville offense and got the game started with a 17-yard reception. But he came up hobbling after the catch without contact and eventually went down.

The receiver was taken to the locker room and was first ruled questionable to return but was downgraded to out before the end of the first quarter.

What does this mean for the Jacksonville offense? Robinson was originally part of a dynamic duo with Allen Hurns, who also entered the NFL in 2014. But Hurns fell out of favor and dropped to the bottom of the Jaguars depth chart.

The Jaguars will likely need a resurgence of Hurns to replace the production of Robinson. The team also has Marqise Lee and Arrelious Benn among the other weapons for Blake Bortles to throw to.

But the brunt of the Jaguars’ offense will run through Leonard Fournette. The rookie running back will receive the majority of the carries for a team that intends to run often in 2017 and followed that game plan to victory against the Texans.

What does this mean for Robinson? Missing the season could be costly for the receiver. He’s scheduled to become a free agent following the 2017 season and needed a big season to cash in on his big potential.

Robinson was a Pro Bowler in 2015 when he led the NFL in touchdowns with 14 to go with his 1,400 receiving yards. But those totals dropped to 883 yards and six touchdowns during the 2016 season when the Jaguars offense struggled to get going all year.
