This hasn’t quite been Carlos Gonzalez’s season, but that may be changing. The Rockies outfielder went off with a pair of home runs against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, including this absolutely monster shot in the seventh inning off reliever David Hernandez.

Just how far did that ball go? Apparently quite far:
Gonzalez needed a big September after struggling through the majority of the season. At the end of August, he was batting just .239/.308/.356 with eight home runs in 112 games. That’s a huge drop-off from the previous season, in which Gonzalez made the NL All-Star team as part of a 25-homer campaign. During the 2015 season, he hit a career-high 40 bombs.
It may be too late for Gonzalez to match those kinds of numbers, but he’s shown signs over the past couple weeks that he’s shaking off the slump. Since the start of the month, he’s hitting 14-of-31 (.451) with four home runs, seven doubles, and 11 RBI.
With the Rockies currently in the last Wild Card spot in the National League for the 2017 postseason, Gonzalez’s return to form could be a game-changer. Colorado has hung around all season despite the underperformance of one of its star players, and now with the playoffs around the corner, he seems to be regaining the form that made him one of the game’s top power hitters.
