The third round of the League Cup always features a few interesting matches, and this year the highlight of the round might be this tilt here, with Liverpool heading southeast to face Leicester City.

Liverpool have gotten off to a bit of a slower start than expected in the Premier League this season, including taking a 5-0 humbling at the hands of Manchester City 10 days ago. They also suffered a disappointing home draw to Sevilla in the Champions League and another home draw to Burnley in the last week, so their confidence may not be at its highest point after recent results.

Of course, things haven’t been going smoothly for Leicester either, with the Foxes winless in their last three Premier League matches and winning just four points in their first five league games. They were obviously hoping for something of a much better start after last season’s disappointment following their shock EPL title win two years ago.

But that has not been the case. A win over a reeling Liverpool side could be just the ticket to spark a surge in Leicester’s form, though, so expect them to fight hard for a win here.

Liverpool will be without Sadio Mane as he continues to serve his suspension for his boot to the face of Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson, and Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana remain out with their own injuries.

Leicester City are missing defender Christian Fuchs for this match, while midfielder Matty James is in serious doubt with an Achilles tendon injury. Both teams are expected to rotate fairly heavily anyway, though, so those absences aren’t likely to heavily impact this match.
