Fantasy football Week 3: Robert Kelley, start or sit?

Rob Kelley appears ready to play on Sunday Night Football. We break down the fantasy implications.

Running back Rob Kelley needed just 12 carries to post 78 yards against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2. He’ll be in for a much tougher matchup against the Oakland Raiders in Week 3.

Kelley is playing through a rib injury right now. It doesn’t seem too bothersome. What bugs his fantasy owners is that Kelley is sharing carries with Samaje Perine. That trend will likely continue moving forward.

Fantasy impact: When two running backs have to share the football, their respective ceilings are limited. Kelley emerged in front of a three-headed monster last year, but 2017 is a whole new ball game.

Perine is smaller but he’s posted some impressive numbers to start the year. The coaches are confident in both backs. Week 3, however, may not be the time to test either one. The Raiders offense is prolific. Washington could therefore find themselves abandoning the running game in the second half. Combine a timeshare with a large deficit potential. That’s reason enough to leave Kelley on the bench this week.

Recommendation: Sit
