Roger Goodell went on First Things First on Fox Sports 1 on Thursday to talk about the NFL’s season kickoff between the Chiefs and Patriots. Nobody expects Patriots fans to give the commissioner a warm welcome at that game, including Goodell.
Roger Goodell knows exactly how Patriots fans will greet him
Patriots fans are not going to be happy to see Goodell, and he knows it.

Goodell was asked by FS1’s Jenna Wolfe if he thinks New England fans will welcome him into Gillette Stadium.
“That may be one way to put it, Jenna,” Goodell said, laughing.
The commissioner isn’t universally beloved by NFL fans in general. His heavy-handed, authoritarian approach to player discipline has forever impacted the way he’s viewed by many fans around the league. But the Deflategate investigation and Brady’s suspension have given Patriots fans plenty of reason to be salty toward Goodell.
Goodell said that Patriots fans are passionate and loyal.
“You expect that. You want that,” Goodell said. “And that’s what’s great about our game.”
But Goodell is sensible enough to know that none of that is directed toward him. Well, maybe the passion will be, in the form of very loud booing in his general direction.
