Marcus Peters sits for national anthem before NFL opener

The Kansas City Chiefs cornerback protested during the national anthem in 2016 as well.

The NFL opened its season on Thursday night between the Chiefs and the Patriots, which gave us our first national anthem protest of the regular season.

Marcus Peters sat during the national anthem, which has been a running topic since Colin Kaepernick first sat down for the national anthem in August of last year. It’s not a new decision for the Kansas City Chiefs cornerback, who protested during the 2016 season by raising a fist during the national anthem.

Peters joins players like Michael Bennett, Marshawn Lynch, Malcolm Jenkins, and others who will be protesting during the 2017 NFL season. Bennett, who raised a fist last season in protest decided that he would be sitting in 2017. Lynch, who was retired during the 2016 season, was sitting for the anthem during the preseason with the Raiders.
