The Hornets blew a 5-point lead over the Heat in the most ridiculous way possible

Was this the right call?

We’ve seen a lot of blown leads in the NBA this season, but not many are going to top what happened to the Hornets on their home floor against the Miami Heat.

The Hornets were down by five points with five seconds left in the game and allowed the Heat to hit a quick three, get a stop, and then get a quick two to tie things up. But that isn’t how they lost the game — it’s much worse.

Kelly Olynyk (!) took it upon himself to grab a rebound and attempt to drive coast to coast for the win. If you’re the defense, that sounds great, right? Maybe not.

Dwight Howard had a hand on Olynyk as he was driving the ball up the court. It’s a tough call to make on Howard, but you can see he has his arm barring off the ball handler.

You can also argue Olynyk was out of control on his drive here. He had no business driving up the floor with the ball like that, and if the officials were going to make that call they probably could’ve done it a bit sooner. There were only .2 seconds left on the clock when Olynyk went to the free throw line.

Was this the right call? I have no clue. Either way, it’s a tough way for the Hornets to lose. Keeping you close to my heart tonight, Hornets fans.
