LeBron James and Stephen Curry talking about the All-Star draft has us excited for this game

I cannot wait to see this play out.

The NBA had its first All-Star draft with Stephen Curry and LeBron James serving as team captains and, boy, does it seem like the draft was a hit.

Both teams are stacked, but most people seem to think Team LeBron has the edge.

But Team Stephen looks pretty good, too!

We’ve got so many new storylines to talk about now because of the draft. James, Kevin Love, and Kyrie Irving are back on the same team, Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant are both on Team LeBron, James Harden is on Team Stephen, plus James is playing with the Pelicans’ frontcourt.

In an interview with TNT’s Ernie Johnson, James and Curry were all smiles and laughs about how everything went down, and they gave us some great gems about the game, the process, and some of their picks.

There’s a lot more thought that goes into picking All-Stars than you would think

At least that’s what James and Curry tell us. James said he had a plan, but things didn’t always go according to what he wanted.

“You already know in your mind that the other captain is going to take somebody you want, so your plan gets messed up so you’ve got to kind of rebound after that,” James said.

Curry, who picked second, said he was playing catch up for most of the draft.

“It was all kind of seeing where Bron wanted to go with the first pick and then watching it kind of snowball from there,” Curry said. “I had a gameplan, I kind of knew what my order was. But when you get to the middle part of the reserves, that’s where it was a little tricky.”

James and Irving back on the same team!?

Yup! It’s happening, y’all! Cavs big three BYKE!

“I just tried to pick the best available players, and to be able to team up back with Kyrie, you know it’s always special, and along with Kevin Love to just, you know, have another weekend to bring back some of the memories we had when we were together,” James said.

HE MISSES HIM!

No, but seriously, it’s going to be something else to see all these guys playing together again. And by something else I mean good basketball.

Curry might have been paying too much attention to his teammates

Because James’ team certainly jumps out at you. But he might have had a distinct advantage because of Curry trying to be loyal to his three All-Star teammates in the game.

“The difference between me and Steph, listen. He got three All-Stars in the game. I only got one. He has a lot more choices than I do. It’s important to have my teammate alongside me,” James said.

Curry certainly had his teammates in his ear over the last few days. Klay Thompson was ready to demand a trade if Curry didn’t pick him.

Draymond Green and Durant both (jokingly) threatened Curry on Instagram, too.

Curry only got two of the three with Green and Thompson, so I guess it’s beef between Curry and Durant now. When is Durant’s contract up, again? #HeGone.

(I’m totally kidding.)

Everyone is excited about the game!

Including the players! Over the last few years, people have complained about the games not being competitive enough, but maybe this draft will change that. James said it might.

“A lot of my teammates and a lot of people I know said, ‘We’re looking forward to this weekend. We’re actually going to watch the game,’ with the All-Star and the way we’re doing to the draft,” James said. “That let’s me know we’re heading in the right direction. Now it’s up to us 24 guys, starting with myself and Steph and the starters, to get this game back to where it should be from a competitive nature.”

If James and Curry had their way, the draft would be televised

WE NEED THIS TO HAPPEN, NBA. PLEASE.

The National Basketball Players Association told SB Nation the players couldn’t come to an agreement on whether they wanted the draft to be televised, but James and Curry don’t seem to mind it at all.

At the beginning of the interview, James flat-out said, “this thing should be televised.”

We couldn’t agree more, LeBron! Hopefully, next year we get what we’re asking for.
