UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen made it official on Wednesday evening — he will forego his senior season and declare for the 2018 NFL draft. Rosen confirmed the news on Twitter with a thankful letter to his school.

One of the top high school prospects in the country, Rosen committed to UCLA and started right away as a true freshman. He mostly lived up to the hype in his first year, making the Freshman All-American team and leading the Bruins to an 8-5 record.

Rosen’s sophomore season was less successful as he struggled with injuries, playing only six games before being shut down with a shoulder ailment. He came back in 2017 and stayed healthy, throwing for 26 touchdowns, 3,717 yards and just ten interceptions in 11 games. However, the Bruins only managed six wins, and head coach Jim Mora got fired before the regular season finale.

Despite an uneven college career, Rosen projects as one of the top quarterbacks in this year’s draft and should go early in the first round. He has prototypical NFL size at 6’4 and 218 pounds with a strong arm and good mechanics as a pure pocket passer. Rosen’s main knocks are accuracy and decision making, which might put a cap on his NFL ceiling. Nevertheless, he checks a lot of boxes that teams look for in a franchise quarterback.

Rosen joins Sam Darnold and Josh Allen as some of the top underclassmen quarterbacks to declare for the draft early.
