CJ McCollum started hot early so he finished his night early, too. After a 28 point first quarter, McCollum finished Wednesday night’s game against the Bulls with 50 points in just 29 minutes.
CJ McCollum goes off for 50 points in career night against the Bulls
He dropped 28 in the first quarter!
He did work from everywhere, too. He hit shots off the catch and he hit them off the dribble. He hit shots inside and out. He yanked the ball every which way leaving players in the dust.
And he made Justin Holiday look plain silly right here.
Have mercy, CJ. That’s unnecessary. Somebody help the poor man.
He scored about a third of the Blazers’ first quarter production, too. He also literally scored more points than the Chicago Bulls.
A few notes about McCollum’s 50 point game that makes it even more impressive:
- He scored 50 through three quarter. Only James Harden has been able to do that this season.
- This is a career high for McCollum, but he’s only scored more than 40 points once before in his career. Shocking, I know. The last time he did it was when he scored 43 points on New Year’s Day 2017.
- McCollum is one of seven Trail Blazers to ever score 50 points in a game. The other six are Damian Lillard, Brandon Roy, Damon Stoudamire, Geoff Petrie, Clyde Drexler and Andre Miller(!).
- He also made the most field goals in a quarter in Blazers history with 11.
Some people question whether McCollum fits well with the Trail Blazers because of how redundant he and Lillard’s skill sets can be, but this shows exactly why they can work well together.
You never know when McCollum will go off. Not only is he a tough shot taker, but he’s a tough shot maker, too. McCollum is too talented not to make things work in Portland. Chicago found that out the hard way — they never stood a chance.
