Phoenix Suns guard Isaiah Canaan suffered a gruesome ankle injury on Wednesday, one bad enough that ESPN made an executive decision to not show any replays after it happened. You don’t need the Suns to make any announcements to know that Canaan will miss the rest of the season.
Suns guard Isaiah Canaan suffers gruesome Gordon Hayward-like ankle injury during layup attempt
We’re wishing the best for Canaan.

Canaan was driving to the rim when he was hit in the air and came down directly onto his ankle, which crumbled underneath him. We won’t show the injury in this post, but if you must see it, it’s visible here. Canaan’s bone was reportedly visible through the skin, per reporters at the game, and both team’s visceral reactions to the play summed it up.
Canaan, to his credit, barely even reacted, sitting on the ground despite his ankle clearly pointing the wrong direction. It was obvious that the adrenaline and shock immediately kicked in. He was taken off the court in a stretcher.
Canaan had been carving out a role in Phoenix for himself, averaging more than nine points and four assists off the bench for the Suns. This injury was awful, but hopefully the guard will be able to recover without any lasting effects. Our best wishes go out to him in this awful moment.
