Hello, NBA. We meet again.
How to prep your mind (and closet) for a new NBA season
‘Tis the season! NBA season, that is. Here’s what you need to get ready for new memes, Woj bombs, and Steph Curry 3-pointers.

With a new season underway, we can officially say cheers to more hilarious memes, nasty crossovers, Stephen Curry step back 3-pointers, Instagram beef, Kawhi’s awkward laugh, oh - and lots of basketball.
While our great SB Nation NBA team has you covered with all the season preview content you could possibly need, we come here to serve with you a different purpose: the best way to get your closet ready for the 2018-19 NBA season!
Follow along as we give you a brief guide on how to prep for what will surely be a wild NBA season.
Is your jersey game on point?
The majority of this season’s new jerseys don’t drop for a few more weeks. However, if you don’t already have your favorite player’s jersey, or just want a new one to kick off the season, here’s the rundown of last year’s top-sellers from the regular season.
Oh, and only one of these players switched teams over the offseason. Any idea who??
Find the T-shirt that’s right for you
For some, the jersey just isn’t right. That’s OK. The name and number T-shirts are a popular style these days and are only $34.99. If you’re looking for a shirt with a local slogan or funny phrase — a la, “I’m trying, Jennifer” — there are plenty of options along those lines, too.
Pick up your required reading
NBA nerds and historians will love this mammoth book, compiled by legendary basketball writer Jackie MacMullan, along with Rafe Bartholomew and Dan Klores (who also directed the 20-hour ESPN documentary of the same name). Basketball: A Love Story is an in-depth oral history with more than 150 interviews featuring basketball’s greatest stars: Bill Russell, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, Larry Bird, Lisa Leslie, Cheryl Miller, and so many more.
If you haven’t read The Jordan Rules, by former Chicago Tribune sportswriter Sam Smith, it’s a must read for all basketball junkies, in my humble opinion. Smith supplies a behind-the-scenes look at Michael Jordan’s quest for his first NBA title with the Chicago Bulls during the 1990-91 season. It’s fantastic, and entertaining as hell.
Here are a few more popular basketball books to add to your reading list.
- Betaball: How Silicon Valley and Science Built One of the Greatest Basketball Teams in History, written by Erik Malinowski, for $11 on Amazon.
- Basketball (and Other Things), written by Shea Serrano, for $13.59 on Amazon.
- Boys Among Men, written by Jonathan Abrams, for $16.11 on Amazon
Lastly, pick up your copy of NBA 2K19
If you haven’t already done so, what better week is there than NBA tip off to order this year’s edition of NBA 2K19? Oh, and it’s $20 off at Best Buy right now.
