The 3 times Odell Beckham’s shown he’s got an absolute cannon during his career

OBJ spinning the pill didn’t exactly come out of nowhere.

Here it is: definitively the best downfield pass anyone has thrown in a New York Giants uniform this season.

This 57-yard touchdown pass lit the spark for a struggling Giants offense in a game they’d end up losing to the Panthers. But that wasn’t Eli Manning winging the pig, or even backup Alex Tanney. It was receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who’s more liable to do this with one hand on the ball ...

... than what he did in Week 5.

But that OBJ can throw isn’t really a revelation.

Back in 2015, an ESPN story referenced Beckham as one of the Giants possible emergency quarterbacks, albeit it seemed really far-fetched at the time given the fact that Manning was still in the midst of a decade-long streak of not missing a start.

The Giants’ emergency quarterback would be one of their wide receivers, with Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randle the most likely candidates. Beckham in particular is very active throwing the ball in practice, though always on his own and not in a structured environment. He can throw a spiral with either hand and can throw the ball a good distance with either hand as well. From time to time, he will crash the quarterback drills in which Eli Manning and backup Ryan Nassib try to hit targets from a distance.

Here’s Beckham throwing the ball with both hands to show some soccer players how it’s done.

And here he launches a ball — admittedly one that’s probably not The Duke — quite a distance.

And then there are the two times Beckham has thrown in his college and pro career to date.

The first was in his last game at LSU, the 2014 Outback Bowl against Iowa.

And then, near the end of his rookie year the Giants ran nearly the exact same play for Beckham with a similar end result — an incompletion.

Beckham’s clearly gotten better winging the pig as shown by his downfield strike to Barkley. Here’s hoping we get to see some more of it this season.
