2017 Urban Meyer has some eerily harsh post-Maryland words for 2018 Urban Meyer

Maryland lost the game, but the 51 points they scored on Ohio State is funny because of something Meyer said in 2017.

No. 10 Ohio State escaped with a 52-51 win against Maryland in College Park on Saturday, after falling behind 17-3 in the first quarter. While the Buckeyes escaped, there’s still something to be said about the Buckeyes giving up 51 points to Maryland.

In 2017, when Texas lost to Maryland 51-41, Longhorns head coach Tom Herman told reporters that the loss was disappointing, but added, “If we all thought that we were going to come in here and in nine months, sprinkle some fairy dust on this team and think that we’ve arrived, then we’re wrong.”

Meyer felt that his former offensive coordinator had placed blame on his players for the loss, and said the following:

“C’mon man. I don’t know where that came from,” Meyer told CBS Sports.”It’s like a new generation of excuse. [Herman] said, ‘I can’t rub pixie dust on this thing.’ He got a dose of reality. Maryland just scored 51 points on you.”

While Saturday’s score is ironic and funny, it was almost worse for the Buckeyes. Maryland QB Tyrrell Pigrome missed receiver Jeshaun Jones in the end zone on what would have been the winning two-point conversion in overtime.

Instead, the Buckeyes won Saturday’s game, though it’s a safe bet that Meyer didn’t envision what he said of Herman and the Longhorns’ loss against the Terps in 2017 would come back for him in 2018, even in victory.
