Both defending champions will return for the 2018 New York City Marathon on Sunday, as both Shalane Flanagan and Geoffrey Kamworor will be in action, the former with the elite women and the latter with the elite men. Kamworor represents Kenya, while Flanagan represents the United States.

Sunday’s action begins at 8:30 a.m. ET with the Professional Wheelchair Division, while the Professional Women will start at 9:20 a.m. and Professional Men (along with the first wave of general runners) at 9:50 a.m.

National and local television coverage begins at 9 a.m., with ESPN2 handling it nationally (live streaming via WatchESPN) and WABC-TV Channel 7 handling it locally (live streaming via ABC7NY.com). There will also be a live stream of the finishing line until 5 p.m., via WatchESPN.

Flanagan is obviously the woman to watch in that race, though keep an eye out for Americans Des Linden, Molly Huddle, Allie Kieffer, Sarah Sellers and more. Mary Keitany and Vivian Cheruiyot of Kenya and Mamitu Daska of Ethiopa are other names to watch.

On the men’s side, Bernard Lagat is the big one to watch out for. The 43-year-old American record holder over 1,500-, 3,000-, and 5,000-meters is making his marathon debut in New York. He is one of many Olympians to watch on Sunday. Kamworor, Shura Kitata, Abdi Abdirahman and Daniel Wanjiru are among the other big names to look out for.

You can check the route for the marathon below (click to expand).

You can also peep a map of the starting area here and the finishing area here. As you can expect, there are a slew of road closures all along the course and at most points around it as well, for spectators.

For a full list of road closures, check here.

And if you are in New York City and plan to use the transit system during the marathon, visit the MTA Weekender to be on top of any service changes.

Below is all you need to know to follow the action, including viewing information and start times.
