Kendall Coyne, Hilary Knight, and the rest of the American women’s hockey stars will take the ice for the first time in Pyeongchang to face Finland on Sunday morning. The game begins at 2:40 a.m. ET and will be broadcast live on NBCSN in addition to the usual live streaming coverage.

There are high expectations for Team USA, which enters the tournament having won three consecutive World Championships. The Americans haven’t won Olympic gold since the first competition in 1998, so the pressure is high to finally snap Canada’s run of dominance.

Opening against Finland should be a pretty good test. The team won bronze at the 2017 World Championships and also earned Olympic bronze medals in 1998 and 2010. Women’s hockey still revolves around the USA-Canada rivalry, but as we saw in the 2006 semifinals, the Americans should be wary of overlooking any opponent.

The second game on Sunday will see the four-time defending gold medalists from Canada take on the Olympic Athletes from Russia. That game will begin at 7:10 a.m. ET and will be broadcast live on USA Network.

Canada largely dominated the Olympic tuneup games against Team USA over the past few months, so there’s little doubt about who the top two contenders to reach the gold medal game are. Trying to stop Marie-Philip Poulin, who already has scored two game-winning goals in Olympic gold medal games, is never easy.
