With injuries to all three point guards on their roster, the Washington Wizards desperately need help. They’re looking to fill that need in free agency, and according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Washington is “seriously considering” ex-NBA guard Ty Lawson for that role.

Lawson led the CBA in scoring and scored 55 points in his final game of the season, but he comes with some history.

Lawson is 30 years old and last played for Shangdong of the Chinese Basketball Association, where he scored 55 points in his final game of the season. He led the CBA in scoring with 25.8 points on 56.6 percent shooting from the field and 41 percent shooting from three with 6.6 assists and 2.4 steals per game.
But long before his stint in China, Lawson was a highly regarded point guard in Denver. He averaged nearly 18 points and nine assists per game in 2014 and almost 15 points and 10 assists in 2015. That was until several run-ins with the police, including not one, but four, DUI arrests, tainted his name and derailed what many believed was a promising career. The Nuggets eventually traded him to the Rockets, who in turn traded him to Indiana. Before he knew it, Lawson was wallowing away in Sacramento for much of the 2016-17 season, his final year in the NBA.
Still, the Wizards have a serious need at the point guard slot in wake of a flurry of injuries. John Wall is still on pace to return in late March after knee surgery. Tomas Satoransky suffered a head injury against the Bulls, and Tim Frazier has a broken nose. Lawson could be a big help, even if he’s just a stop-gap until Satoransky or Frazier return.
Washington is also looking into other free agent point guards, according to Wojnarowkski, including Derrick Rose, Briante Weber, and Ramon Sessions.
