After being waived by the Sacramento Kings, Joe Johnson has found a home with the Houston Rockets. It was rumored that Johnson would join the Rockets when he hit the market, but the move was officially announced on Wednesday by the Rockets.
Joe Johnson officially signs with the Rockets with hopes for a deep postseason run
Though there’s no guarantee the Rockets will make it that far.

Johnson had been a buyout candidate for the Jazz all season long. He initially requested a trade from the team with the deadline looming. He went from Utah to Sacramento in the three-team trade that sent George Hill and Rodney Hood to Cleveland.
Johnson has had a rough year so far, only averaging 7.3 points per game and shooting 27 percent from deep. He also battled through a wrist injury early on in the season.
So how does Johnson help the Rockets?
The Rockets don’t necessarily need Johnson to fill a particular role, but he has traditionally been a solid scoring presence for every team he’s been on. He struggled with the Jazz this season, but we don’t have to go back far to see how he can be effective. He was a crucial piece for the Jazz when they advanced past the Clippers in the first round of the playoffs last season.
Now that the Rockets have him locked in for the stretch run, they’re hoping Johnson can play a similar role for them in a pinch if they need it.
