The Sacramento Kings are not a very good basketball team right now, but neither are the Chicago Bulls. When two bad teams play each other, you would think their badness would offset one another, creating one at least semi-competitive game ... right?
The Kings just had the worst first quarter of the year vs. the Bulls
It literally doesn’t get any worse than this.

In this case, no — not right. The Bulls showed some semblance of competency, rattling off 28 points in the first quarter. The Kings? Not so much. Sacramento scored only nine points in the opening period. It marked the worst first quarter of the 2017-18 season. The Kings shot just 4-of-21 (19 percent) from the field in the quarter. That’s not good basketball.
Surprisingly, it’s not the lowest-scoring quarter we’ve ever seen. After all, the Celtics scored just seven first-quarter points against Atlanta in April 2016. That was the lowest-scoring opening quarter since the shot clock was introduced in 1954-55. And both the 1997 Mavericks and the 2004 Warriors managed to score just two points in a quarter. Imagine that happening in today’s NBA.
Well, nine points in a quarter is the equivalent, and the Kings just hit that new low. If they turn around and win this game, it’ll be a damn shame for Chicago.
