As expected, the Virginia Cavaliers stayed atop the AP Poll for the fifth straight week after beating North Carolina in the ACC tournament championship game. This is the first time in program history the Cavaliers have won 31 games in a season, and they became the first team to pick up 20 ACC wins (including the tournament).

Villanova and Xavier stayed in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots for the second straight week. Kansas jumped up five spots to No. 4. Virginia, Villanova, Xavier, and Kansas were also selected as the four No. 1 seeds in the NCAA tournament bracket, released Sunday.

Michigan State rounds out the top five, followed by Cincinnati, Michigan, Gonzaga, Duke, and North Carolina in the top 10.

Kentucky rejoined the AP Poll at No. 18 after winning the SEC tournament, with only Rhode Island — which lost the A-10 tournament to Davidson — dropping out.

The ACC led the way once again with five teams, including three in the top 10. The SEC had four, as did the Big Ten.

St. Mary’s finished their season at No. 25 and were the only team ranked this week that was not selected for the NCAA tournament.
