The North Queensland Cowboys were meters away from taking a late lead against the Brisbane Broncos in a National Rugby League showdown in Australia. Only one thing could stop them — an uncaring goalpost.
The biggest tackle of Friday’s Australian rugby slate came from a goalpost
The Brisbane Broncos held on for a key victory thanks to a fumble-forcing chunk of metal and padding.

The Cowboys trailed, 24-20, with fewer than two minutes to play in the match before giant prop Scott Bolton took an inside pass from Johnathan Thurston deep into Broncos’ territory. His run to the goal line appeared destined to give his team four points with a successful try, then two more on an easy conversion from inside the uprights. Instead, he crashed into the post, losing the ball and dooming Queensland to heartbreaking defeat.
The failed try ensured a furious Cowboys’ comeback would fall short. North Queensland had trailed, 18-8, before falling inches short of a game-winner. what should have been an inspiring victory and a 2-0 record in the Telstra Premiership was dashed by a post more brutal than anything on your drunk aunt’s Facebook wall.
