Loyola-Chicago’s improbable run through the NCAA tournament continues as the Ramblers are on to the Elite Eight after yet another thrilling victory, this time a 69-68 win over the Nevada Wolf Pack. Marques Townes hit a clutch three-pointer from the corner to put Loyola up 69-65 with seven seconds left as the shot clocked closed in on double-zeros.

Caleb Martin connected with a three of his own with three seconds left to close within a point, but the Wolf Pack still had fouls to give. Jordan Caroline fouled with 1.4 seconds left, forcing Loyola to inbound the ball from their baseline again. Townes hauled in the half-court pass just past the midline, and was fouled by Caroline once again.

Upon watching the replay, commentator Chris Webber thought Townes got away with a bit of a travel.

Obviously, a travel would have given the Wolf Pack the ball at mid-court with one more chance to win the game. It’s definitely a close call, and one that would be extremely difficult for a referee to make without the added benefit of a slowed down replay.

Loyola was able to run out the clock before Nevada could foul, securing their spot in the Elite Eight where they will face the winner of Kentucky-Kansas State.
