The Miami Marlins gifted us with a beautiful opening inning to the 2018 MLB season. It went about as well as we all thought it would.
The 2018 Marlins are canceled after one inning
Miami had a beautifully disastrous opening inning.

To kick things off, Cubs leadoff batter, Ian Happ, hit a home run on the very first pitch of the game.
Then, Happ’s swing clobbered Marlins catcher Chad Wallach in the face.
(Cubs 1, Marlins 0.)
Then pitcher Jose Urena walked in a run.
(Cubs 2, Marlins 0.)
Then Urena hit Javier Baez and let in another run.
(Cubs 3, Marlins 0.)
The entire Cubs lineup batted in the inning.
At the very least, the ceremonial Air Force flyover seemed to have safely gone as planned after the roof was opened following a pre-game DJ Khaled concert.
Of course, that didn’t stop there from being confusion about it.
Let’s see what the fans think!
Oh.
BONUS
As a result of Happ’s home run, writer Michael Cerami will jump into Lake Michigan, where it is currently 43 degrees, and will drop to a low of 28.
Happy Opening Day everyone, and thank you, MLB, for starting off the season right with a nationally televised Marlins’ game.
Update: This story has been updated to include an image of the flyover occurring with the roof open before first pitch at Marlins Park.
