Evan Gattis forgot how many outs there were. Three. There were three outs. Because of you, Evan.

The Houston Astros might be the best team in baseball. What this post presupposes is that for five seconds ... maybe they weren’t?

Evan Gattis hit into a double play, and then he willed it into a triple play through sheer nincompoopery. This video doesn’t give you the full idea, but it’s a nice head start on understanding the messiness:

It’s a simple story. Evan Gattis forgot how many outs there were. After getting doubled up, he turned the wrong way and turned a double play into a triple play. While it wasn’t really the most exciting of triple plays — MLB.com didn’t even upload a video with the third out — it was certainly one of the dumbest triple plays you’ll ever see.

And cataloging the dumbest plays in baseball is most definitely our beat. Here is one of the very, very dumbest. The best part might be when Gattis realizes his mistake:

aw raspberries

The Astros opened up a four-run lead after this triple play, but that won’t take away from the fact that, for a few seconds, they were the worst baseball team in the world again. Ahhh, it’s like 2014 all over again.
