LeBron James’ buzzer beater in Game 5 looked exactly like his Orlando one 9 years ago

Like, almost EXACTLY the same.

LeBron James’ buzzer-beating three-pointer to beat the Indiana Pacers in Game 5 was absolutely exquisite.

That it capped off a monster 44-point, 10-rebound, eight-assist performance when none of his other teammates really showed up made it even better.

But my favorite part of the shot? It looked strangely familiar. Remember this one nine years ago? (Wow, it’s been that long????).

Magic fans sure do, even if they won the series.

The two situations aren’t exactly the same. The Cavaliers were behind in both the game and the series (1-0) in 2009, whereas they were tied against the Pacers. The inbound pass came from the far side in 2009, as opposed to the near side in 2018. LeBron didn’t dribble in 2009, whereas he did in 2018. The immediate opponent reaction shots were very different.

But the shot itself? Eerily similar.

The silver lining for Pacers fans: Orlando went on to win that 2009 series in six games. Perhaps there’s hope for Indiana to steal the final two games of this series and follow in the Magic’s footsteps.
